Curriculum Venture Lessons
To put the lessons together we discussed each part separately and how they would connect, to each other and to the Circle of Life.

Art is going to create a Bio Map with each student.
REMEDIAL - give students predrawn map to be labeled/colored or limit number of items to be included

Communications will come up with 15 different life events to be narrowed down to ten for the purpose of the map.
Communications is going to brainstorm 15 different events with each student and have them take five to expand upon. From that list they will choose one to create a personal narrative.
REMEDIAL - provide an organizer (sensory chart, octogonal chart, etc.) for brainstorming 5 events; provide outline for personal narrative paragraph requirements

Social Studies will focus on map skills, such as relative and absolute location, compass rose, time lines, and parts of time. Will also include discussions of life cycles and changes due to diets and technological advances.
REMEDIAL -

Math is going to discuss life expectancy and work on graphing data, finding the line of best fit, and write the equation for the line of best fit.
REMEDIAL - provide a blank spreadsheet for students to input data which includes necessary formulas; provide step-by-step instructions for finding line of best fit and equation for that line

Science is going to have teams of students research 6 different scientists linked to the cell theory. Students will create a "poster" of the scientists life and accomplishments.
REMEDIAL - focus on only one particular section of one scientist's life as determined by the teacher; create only that portion of time line

Students will also create a time line including the original 15 events from communications and add that to a timeline of life from the begining. Students will display a final product in teams which will include: life time line (team), personal time line (individual), scientist poster (team), personal narrative (individual), and the map (individual). Teachers will work together to create teams that will be the same throughout the project. Teachers can choose to grade collaboratively or individually.
